the mask series
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Karen Molloy captured the vocabulary that crept into daily discourse to describe the ongoing social, racial, and climate reckoning of the times. She would jot down these observed or heard words, terms, and phrases, on post-it notes. Her resulting series of over 200 mask silhouettes bears witness to the upheaval of those years. Each mask silhouette contains the found text handwritten in charcoal.
